Welp. That was a week.
My Ginger kitty has been on regular doses of subcutaneous water since January, when she developed major thyroid problems on top of her long term kidney issues. (We are also now managing that with diet.) (She is eighteen now and pretty frail and skinny.)
On Wednesday, shortly after the vet's office closed, she seemed to take a really sharp downward turn. She was breathing hard and shallow and seemed to be in pain. We gave her her daily fluids a little early, and I spent the evening sitting with her - I really wasn't sure she was going to make it through to morning. But on Thursday morning she was clearly doing somewhat better again.
So we took her to the vet! And the vet confirmed what I'd been suspecting since Monday, which is that she was having trouble seeing. More accurately, both her retinas are detached, becaaaaause, she was having problems with high blood pressure! So presumably they just you know. *gestures* Went pop.
She's doing better now. More stable. The vet ran blood tests and says her kidney and thyroid are doing well. So we are, as we have been, in kitty hospice mode instead of you know. Imminent loss mode. Only now with a blind kitty!
She's figuring stuff out. But she really hates how much harder not being able to see to leap makes it to avoid the dog and his belief that everyone wants to play with him all the time.
