That is to say, about the suffering narratives, I don't think that the writers are consciously deploying the ickier Redemption of The Inferior/Lesser Person By Patiently Enduring Suffering narratives that are so persistent, I think they're mostly trying to invoke other narratives, it's just that the Patient Griselda trap is hard to escape.
