My crocuses are blooming! My little crocuses that I wasn't even sure if the bulbs were viable when I planted them last fall! They are blooming! There are little cup shaped purple blossoms!

They really are. I like how low to the ground they are. It makes them feel like secrets.

Spring bulbs are one of those things I really miss about living in a wetter place. But if I go up into the mountains in a month or so, there will be wild glacier lilies, so there are tradeoffs.

Ooh. I tried some Anemones but the weather was stormy and they didn't emerge...though they did put down roots. Tulips are nice too! But be sure you don't have ground squirrels or gophers. They find bulbs rather tasty.
Crocuses and Snow Drops are heralds of Spring in places with evil winters.

I have anemones too - I've had them for three years, and I've yet to get blooms out of them . They sprout, but I think something has a taste for them, because all I ever see is their leaves and sheared off central stalks.

It's kind of funny, because we've got a lot of rodents, but I've never had a problem with rodents. The local population is lazy enough that they eat all the crab apples and low hanging berries we leave on the stem, and don't dig up enough of the bulbs for it to be noticable.
