...Ganked from pretty much everyone.
Pick a character and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

Carly!
2) She's a geek. Geek geek geek geek geek geek geek. She thinks learning things is awesome. Computers are cool! Books are badass! oh, Teletraan, talk to me, sweetie!
3) Guts. She's got 'em. Carly does dangerous and/or courageous things on a regular basis. Generally, that's not so much because she's an adrenaline junkie, but because she's got a good sense of the real risks and believes she can handle them. ...Or else because she got so angry or excited she forgot there was any danger at all.
4) Her family has a good amount of money. They're well off. I generally figure her father is out of the picture and her mother is also a scientist. Relatedly, in a lot of ways Carly's very sheltered. Until she went off to college she'd never been in a conventional classroom setting. She's not accustomed to being at a social disadvantage.
5) She's an excellent shot. She's taken prizes. And pheasants. Lots of the latter.
