tiamatschild: A painting of a woman leaning over a railing to set a candle in a lamp (Everyday Devotion)
I finished and published four stories this year! Mostly for exchanges, which I did several of! ...And whom I kept matching up with Guinevak for.

Title: Mme C- and the Strange Seas of Europa
Author: Tiamat’s Child
Fandom: The Comfortable Courtesan
Word Count:
Rating: General Audiences
Characters/Pairing: Madame C & The Marquess of B - Aubrey Bexbury (The Comfortable Courtesan)Madame C-/Mr F-/Mrs F-
Summary: In which they prepare to venture across the icy shell of the world, and every passage means much.
Warnings: None.
Notes: Written for guinevak, for the Chocolate Box Exchange Round 5

Mme C- and the Strange Seas of Europa on AO3

First Line: When Marcello had gone to bespeak the party a gas balloon with a traveller's carriage slung beneath it – for he did not trust any of the party except the Marquess to reliably perform this feat, being mere tourists all, and the Marquess he would not currently suffer to undertake any task even as tiring as negotiation with a semi-sapient AI juice bar – Aubrey turned to Clorinda and said, “I had no real expectation, when last I was here, at this port, of ever seeing dear old Europa again.”

Title: Keep Other Times
Author: Tiamat’s Child
Fandom: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Word Count:
Rating: General Audiences
Characters/Pairing: Jyn Erso & Cassian Andor
Summary: Jyn takes a middle of the night nap in Cassian's bunk. She's always been able to sleep anywhere, but it's good to get a chance to rest somewhere where rest is easy.
Warnings: None.
Notes: For guinevak, for the Aromantic Characters Exchange.

Keep Other Times on Ao3

First Line: Jyn woke up over warm.

Title: With Feelings a Hundredfold
Author: Tiamat’s Child
Fandom: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System - Mòxiāng Tóngxiù
Word Count:
Rating: Mature
Characters/Pairing: Luò Bīnghé/Shěn Yuán | Shěn Qīngqiū
Summary: Luo Binghe said some things the other night, while doing a few other things, and Shen Qingqiu can't quite get them out of his head. So he's going to ask! Today! This very hour!

Shen Qingqiu is going to communicate if it kills him! (Which it won't. He is very aware of that. If squirming embarrassment were regularly fatal, he'd have died many more than three times to date.)
Warnings: Kink negotiation, discussion of rough oral sex.
Notes: Written for Remix Revival 2020. Inspired by Evonius's oral Exercise.

First Line: Shen Qingqiu asked over tea.

Title: In a Room Together
Author: Tiamat’s Child
Fandom: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Word Count:
Rating: Explicit
Characters/Pairing: Jyn Erso/Bodhi Rook
Summary: Jyn and Bodhi take some time to explore. Each other, and what they want.
Warnings: None.

1) Give me a pairing.

2) Give me an AU setting.

3) I will write you a three-sentence fic.

I did this on tumblr a few weeks ago. Here are my results from there, and if anyone would like one (or another) here, leave a comment with a prompt and I'll see what I can do!

Galahad/Heliabel, Finisterre, for Guinevak )

Fantine/Valjean, Merchanterverse, for Guinevak )

tiamatschild: Painting of a woman resting on a bridge railing - she has a laundry bag beside her (Default)
Maelstrom and Gyre, Transformers G1

Maelstrom and Gyre are a pair of twins who got the bad and creepy end of what should have been a fairly routine labor contract. They broke it the first chance they got and, through a complex series of misadventures the details of which I am still pretty hazy on (I have several ideas about what might have happened, but I haven't pinned down any solid thoughts or written anything) they ended up in a position to get fished out of the path of an oncoming storm, refuelled, and put up for the night by Cheerly. Maelstrom, who is their self appointed spokesperson and also the one who's more likely to break your fingers, took the night to think and talk it over with Gyre, and in the morning told Cheerly that they had no where to go, no prospect of anywhere to go, and no job or any prospect of one.

tiamatschild: A photograph of a pair of hands shaping a pot on a pottery wheel (Making something new)
Porphyry, Steven Universe

Porphyry is a pretty new character, which is why I'm writing about her tonight, because I should get to bed soon. But am still worked up. She's a rebellion era Crystal Gem, one of the many and many who didn't survive the war. One of the ideas I have on the back burner that I really really would love to write is backstory fic with slow burn Ruby/Sapphire and for that I need a cast. ...a cast of guppies. ...sometimes I really feel a certain bond with CJ Cherryh. Anyway.

Porphyry )
tiamatschild: A painting of a woman in a chiton hanging washing on a line (Hanging the Washing Out to Dry)
Moraine, Transformers G1

Okay, let's talk Moraine.

...I honestly didn't intend Moraine to turn up so often in my fic. She was initially just a walk on to move the plot (such as it was) along. She walked on. She walked off. She went backstage and metaphorically made cocoa and refused to leave.

Weird little alien robot academics unite )
tiamatschild: A print of a figure with a blue umbrella, walking away along a path in the rain (Walking Home with a blue umbrella)
The Young TARDIS, Doctor Who

Because I talked about Agape yesterday, and the TARDIS is just as much of an oc, here we go!

The young TARDIS that Susan Foreman found cowering in her front garden under the apple tree is a war model – its growth artificially accelerated and rushed onto the frontlines a good fifty years before it should have seen full service. When its pilot was killed in battle near the end of the Time War it panicked and bolted – and there's nothing that can bolt like a TARDIS. Instead of returning to base, it ran, looking for whatever TARDISes that don't trust anyone or anything look for, and found Susan's little complex knot of local spacetime, where it pulled the most best camouflage it could think of: a doghouse.

Cut for length )
tiamatschild: A painting of a woman in a chiton hanging washing on a line (Hanging the Washing Out to Dry)
Agape of Chalcis, Doctor Who

Agape is that much maligned being, an original Companion. But she's not the Doctor's companion, she's Susan Foreman's! She and Susan wander around time and space, generally extremely lost, often with other people along as well, attempting to tend and nurture and heal an underage, undersized, and extremely traumatized former child soldier TARDIS, one of the few survivors of the Time War. There is a lot of tea drunk, a lot of places to stay begged (when the TARDIS panics it tends to kick them out and then shrink so small no one can get in), and a lot of weird mysteries to be investigated and days to be saved.

More under cut )
tiamatschild: Painting of a woman dancing a circle dance - she is smiling, her hand outstreched (Woman in Blue Dancing)
Cheerly, Transformers G1

Cheerly, because I've been thinking about her a lot lately. I have a longstanding ambition to write a More Or Less G1-ish Dockworker Origin fic about Optimus' first several centuries as Prime. This requires a lot of ocs, because I'm pretty sure that G1 Optimus didn't meet most his current cadre until pretty well into the war. Elita's the obvious exception, and Alpha Trion would be around too, being less helpful than Elita and Optimus could wish – but nearly all the other canon autobots would be off living their own lives at that point. If they'd even been constructed yet! Which most of them hadn't been.

Cheerly's one of those early Autobots from well before Optimus is actually in charge of much of anything.

This was one of those cases of I Have To Name A Transformer That! )
tiamatschild: A painting of a woman in a chiton hanging washing on a line (Hanging the Washing Out to Dry)
Clarissant of Orkney and Lothian, Arthuriana

Technically Clarissant isn't an OC in the same sense as some of my others are. She does exist in Chretien, where she appears in one of his unfinished stories as a woman who was born to a dead mother in what may or may not be the land of the dead. (Probably there would have been some kind of reveal, but Chretien died when the story was maybe a third of the way on its way, so whatever was going on there remains mysterious.) But basically I did what so many an Arthurian storyteller has done, and while pretending I was merely embellishing on what was already there I uh.

Basically created a whole new character. *coughs *

Lots more under cut )

Okay, I've seen people doing OC October - especially [personal profile] ilyena_sylph and so far I've completely failed to comment even though I've really enjoyed everyone's write ups! sooo cooooooooool! But it looks so fun and I want to join in! so even though I'm late, and I don't know if I can catch back up or anything, I'm just going to jump in and go ahead.

Give me a character, pairing, or fandom, and I will give you three folklore archetypes or specific stories that would make a good fairytale au for it.

With the help of Folktexts:Folklore and Mythology Electronic Texts!

Tumblr is fun for memes too, but I still really like them in posts with threadable comments best.

I thought I'd at least try this year.

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Deposition (Fullmetal Alchemist, Scar, Marcoh, background Yoki, numerous OCs, non-explicit violence) is a story that's utterly me and I'm proud of it. It has characters who mirror each other, multiple stories within a story told by multiple people, original characters galore, boatloads of sensory detail, people working very hard to be gentle with each other, shared (though differing) trauma, a young woman who's on a Quest that's likely to take up the rest of her life, powerful platonic relationships between men and women, and a queer love story acting as a given in the background. It's about grieving and loss, as so many of my stories are. (And it was pretty obviously written by someone who spends way too much time reading oral histories.)

Every Happy Family Is Happy In Its Own Way (Princess Tutu, Ahiru, Fakir, ensemble, incredibly spoilery) is a story that came straight from my id after I rewatched the series and, as usual, sobbed myself sore over kind of a lot of it. Despite being born from all the cathartic crying not being quite cathartic enough I think it's good. It lacks a plot, although it does have a discernible emotional arc and cause and effect is in force, because I partly wanted to explore how you write a story about a fairy tale/opera world that is all about the plot once there is no plot anymore. I didn't want it to have a plot. It shouldn't have a plot. There is no more plot! Things just happen. It's about telling stories, again, and grief, and learning not to hate yourself for everything, and dance as a shared language, and friendship, and distinctly unconventional love affairs, and being who you really are and that being just fine. Just fine.

Come Slowly (Dragon of the Lost Sea, Shimmer/Thorn) is, again, about stories and communication and grief and going ahead and loving people even when doing so is scary and hard. Thorn and Shimmer have one of my favorite relationships ever - it's loving and prickly and intense. This story is post-canon and a little spoilery, but mostly it's drenched in sensory imagery and is all about Thorn's idea of decadence, which mostly involves people caring about him, valuing him, and actually showing it. Like the other two it involves somewhat unconventional domesticity, hospitality, and intensely driven women.

I am terrified about going to see my psychiatrist tomorrow, so. Borrowed from lots of people!

Name a fandom and I'll tell you which character I'll most likely:

1. bake cupcakes for:
2. trust with the keys to my car:
3. put thumbtacks on the chair thereof:
4. have a crush on:
5. pack up and leave if they moved next door:
6. vote for President (or, again, alternatively support as leader of the party for whom I vote):
7. pick as my partner in a buddy movie:
8. pair up:
9. vote off the island and into the volcano:
10. wheedle into fixing my MP3 player:
