Jun. 29th, 2016 04:38 pmI am so sick of the broad swathe of Clone Wars fandom that apparently cannot write Ahsoka as a character in her own right instead of some kind of prop to make the men around her feel things or look good. Sometimes a cute kid shaped cardboard cutout to complete a domestic tableau. Sometimes some kind of shorthand scrapegoat for the Council.
So many long scenes where men humiliate her and we the audience are meant to applaud because she 'deserved that' (you can tell, because the author wrote her saying something 'problematic) or it's understandable from the man's perspective, so it's all okay! You can freely enjoy the polemic directed against a girl child/woman. Except! Oh wait! some authors have a woman deliver the dressing down in part. That makes it so much better. I mean, when she has nothing to do but say Wrong And Bad things and be humiliated and have her humiliation serve as cathartic confirmation of their opinions for the audience or sometimes, to educate some other character (usually a man) it's so much better if a woman gets to endlessly correct and lecture and often belittle her, right? That makes it not troublesome at all, anymore!
So many fics where she doesn't turn up except as proof (usually merely in dialogue) that Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are really and truly good people because they're training her to follow their example whatever their example is that the author believes proves their goodness.
So many author's notes about how they just love Ahsoka, that's why in this fic she has nothing to do but say things that everyone immediately disagrees with and that the audience is clearly meant to disagree with. That are signaled to be bad. Have compassion for her and don't think the author is bashing just because they had her call someone a slur never even used in canon and she's here merely to create conflict and be yelled at. But the author understands she's just been mislead by her culture. They've tried to do justice to her character. That's why she's out of character and here just for someone to take out their anger on! That's why the scene ends with her stunned to silence and deeply hurt!
nrrrrrrrrrrgh
Really it just. It hurts my heart so much. It makes me so sad. So much of the series is about Ahsoka growing up and growing into herself. So much fanfic seems to want instead to cram her into a box smaller than the space she starts out in.

Title: Wolffe and the Wulver's Rock
Author: Tiamat’s Child
Fandom: Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Word Count: 984
Rating: G
Characters/Pairing: CC 3636 | Wolffe & Plo Koon
Summary: As a child, Wolffe forgets his local folkloric landscape, and does not find the solitude he went seeking.
Warnings: None.
Notes: For ploappreciationweek @ tumblr – Day One: Hogwarts AU. …I am not always very good at Hogwarts AUs, and this turned into just as much of a European Folklore Influenced Fantasy!AU with a few Harry Potter/Hogwarts elements. *wince* But I did try, and it's too late to try over again. (There's also a lot of worldbuilding that did not make it into this story because it refused to fit.) (Might need to come back to this.)

Title: Triangulation Point
Author: Tiamat’s Child
Fandom: Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Secret Missions – Ryder Windham
Word Count: 1147
Rating: G
Characters/Pairing: CT-5177 | Chatterbox/Lalo Gunn
Summary: Early in the Hasty Harpy's journey from Kynachi to Chiss space, Chatterbox tries to figure out what exactly Captain Gunn is after.
Warnings: Mention of incest.
Notes: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Secret Missions is a four volume serial of middle-grade reader spin offs of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars CGI animated series. They're written by Ryder Windham and best described as 'uneven': the propaganda newsreel style of the show's introductory voiceovers does not work very well as a sustained narrative pose, but Windham's characters are delightful. This story is set near the beginning of the second volume, Curse of the Black Sun Pirates.

Summary: Rey doesn't sleep. Finding Luke Skywalker doesn't in itself change that.

Mar. 13th, 2016 05:01 pm...could almost be called, "You WILL Have World Ending Feelings About Anakin Skywalker, Like It Or Not."
I just watched S2:E13, and the moment when the music slides to those couple of chords from The Imperial March that the films have always used as Darth Vader's fanfare - - -
I gasped and covered my mouth.
I really appreciate how this show is mindful of and committed to showing how many of the things that admirable about Anakin, especially those that make him so valuable to the Republic in a galaxy at war, are tangled deeply into the things that imperil him and precipitate his downfall. And most of the time, he really doesn't have the good sense and emotional resilience and capacity for sustained self reflection to even notice. He's so blithe and unconcerned after that moment, laughing at Obi Wan yelling at him - hooo boy.
Drat it all I didn't ask for these feelings, I just wanted adorable trainee Jedi teenage girls! And yes! The show delivered on that front! (And how.) But it snuck the feelings in too and drat. Drat it. Drat it all.
