tiamatschild: Painting of a woman resting on a bridge railing - she has a laundry bag beside her (Stopping By Woods On A Sunny Afternoon)
Over the last several days I've rewatched "Darkness Rising", the five part pilot for Transformers: Primer. And also "Masters and Students" the first episode after the pilot, the one with Skyquake and Soundwave thwarting Starscream's scheming.

I really like this show. I really really do. I love Raf and Bumblebee's Platonic Soulmates At First Sight thing (Bumblebee spontaneously breaking out into a cheer for Raf on the space bridge when Raf disrupts Soundwave's navigational targeting is so incredibly dear), and Arcee's kindness and grief and anger, and Fowler's utter badassery and patriotically themed PG rated creative swearing (although this early in he has not come out with his better ones). And Soundwave's beautiful design and quiet menace and elegantly incisive intelligence. And Megatron in full horribly charismatic bombast, and Starscream's totally unfounded conviction that he counts as The Sensible One, and the way this show plays Megatron's violence towards Starscream as ominous and disturbing instead of for humor (all those foreboding little bits of music when Megatron is being threatening) and as part of the major dysfunction of what the Decepticon movement has become over the eons.

And Ratchet is so great, and the bit where Bulkhead tries to shield Miko's innocence and pretty much fails because Miko is a terror and a half and really is not listening to him and Miko glomming onto him just. Every. Single. Time. Ratchet flapping his hand at Arcee, "Your physcian says you're fine!" The several times Optimus saves Ratchet's life with a well timed shot or punch - - -

How seriously Optimus treats everyone, how his gravity is not that he takes himself seriously, but that he takes everyone else seriously -

*bwees and rolls around in narrative*

Maelstrom and Gyre, Transformers G1

Maelstrom and Gyre are a pair of twins who got the bad and creepy end of what should have been a fairly routine labor contract. They broke it the first chance they got and, through a complex series of misadventures the details of which I am still pretty hazy on (I have several ideas about what might have happened, but I haven't pinned down any solid thoughts or written anything) they ended up in a position to get fished out of the path of an oncoming storm, refuelled, and put up for the night by Cheerly. Maelstrom, who is their self appointed spokesperson and also the one who's more likely to break your fingers, took the night to think and talk it over with Gyre, and in the morning told Cheerly that they had no where to go, no prospect of anywhere to go, and no job or any prospect of one.

Cheerly, Transformers G1

Cheerly, because I've been thinking about her a lot lately. I have a longstanding ambition to write a More Or Less G1-ish Dockworker Origin fic about Optimus' first several centuries as Prime. This requires a lot of ocs, because I'm pretty sure that G1 Optimus didn't meet most his current cadre until pretty well into the war. Elita's the obvious exception, and Alpha Trion would be around too, being less helpful than Elita and Optimus could wish – but nearly all the other canon autobots would be off living their own lives at that point. If they'd even been constructed yet! Which most of them hadn't been.

Cheerly's one of those early Autobots from well before Optimus is actually in charge of much of anything.

You know you're really a grown up when your younger brother buys you a RID2015 Optimus Prime for your birthday and apologizes because it's not a Rescue Bots Optimus.

(He was delighted to know that I love RID 2015 as well.)

Also, Mom and I went to the arboretum, where we saw some cool art installations and petted a bed of lambs' ears (which was marked 'touch', which was good, because we were probably both going to touch anyway).

"The air was heavy. Heavy with the fog of lawlessness. That's when she walked in... and asked me the one question I wasn't prepared to answer."

"Why is it so dark in here?"

Welp. It's true. Rescue Bots is completely and totally amazing and I am in love with absolutely everyone on the show.

Also, how exciting is it to have a good guy guest character voiced by Mark Hamill? Extremely exciting.

I love Ratchet in any continuity, but Transformers: Prime Ratchet is maaaaaaaybe my favorite.

Admittedly, he edges out ahead of Transformers Animated Ratchet a good bit by virtue of um, TFA!Ratchet, for all I love him, being entangled in some of what I dislike most about that series' narrative disservices to its women. ...which does not have a lot to do with the character per se. But.

Watched Transformers: Prime episodes "Toxicity" and "Hurt".

*low whistle* That was some high quality canon whump right there. Dang.

Also, Miko, baby, oh honey, listen to Arcee, darling, she knows whereof she speaks.

After dragging my feet for a while, I finally watched the season finale two parter for RID2015.

And now I've seen what's currently out, and can go back to TF: Prime, and also write fic!

...Oh thank goodness, this First Aid/Rodimus Prime thing I've been working on for over a month is half as long as I thought it was, the link up scene where Roddy's dream self is, of course, Hot Rod and it's deeply distressing all around and then the morning after thing that was giving me so much trouble because the timelines wouldn't mesh is a different story entirely PHOOSH good good good. That was why I was having timeline problems! The whole thing happens a goodly while later!

This is just Oh Okay We ARE Still Dating Guess Who's Got A Massive And ENTIRELY UNSURPRISING Service Kink Yeah It's Us (note: neither of them have figured out that that's what's going on, First Aid because it's basically nonsexual and none of his human patients/friends/colleagues who gossip about stuff like that gossip about the nonsexual stuff, Roddy because he's actually kind of clueless in general about a lot of things - teeny tiny tiny tiny social circle'll do that to you). *kerflumps* That means I'm almost done.

Which is good, because I want to finish this before I work on the various bingos. Also I was beginning to despair of ever getting the idea out of my metaphorical sock drawer.

I require Strongarm and Hank interaction.

(I also require Grimlock and Hank and Bumblebee and Hank interaction, but not as badly as Strongarm and Hank. Just. Hank. Lots more of Hank, I need it.)
tiamatschild: A painting of a woman in a chiton hanging washing on a line (Hanging the Washing Out to Dry)
Having another small problem with RID. Grimlock has literally never been sexy to me before (no, not in the comics either, shut up). And now. He is? As well as really cute? What is happening. Why.
tiamatschild: Painting of a woman dancing a circle dance - she is smiling, her hand outstreched (Woman in Blue Dancing)
Oh no it's been less than two minutes and I'm already in love with Strongarm. Her little face when she gathers herself and says, "That's okay, Lieutenant. You meditate. I'll take care of this perp."

Oh no oh no. Oh no. She's adorable, oh no.

Guess who caved and is watching RID 2015 before she finishes TF: Prime?
tiamatschild: A painting of a woman in a chiton hanging washing on a line (Hanging the Washing Out to Dry)
I rewatched the 1986 Transformers G1 movie last night.

I'd forgotten just how many tentacles are in that film. And how many of them are not at all keen on Hot Rod going away.

(There is also a goodly amount of Kup in tentacles, but they are much much less friendly tentacles.)

...Also, I am pretty sure Wreck-Gar and Roddy dance a few steps of a tango in the dance scene. As well as what looks like part of a waltz. Roddy lets Wreck-Gar dip him despite being head and shoulders taller even as Hot Rod.

(The Junkion and Autobot alliance celebration dance is much more joyful than the end of the movie, and somehow I'd moved that whole sequence to the end in my recollection instead of the actual end, which is a freeze frame of Unicron's lifeless head.)

...Transformers: Prime Optimus and Ratchet are the most married ever.

Ever.

Ever.

*pouts* [livejournal.com profile] tainry promised me that Bumblebee getting put through the wringer in Transformers: Prime "Operation Bumblebee" would be okay, so I put it on to watch it, but the family came in and I had to pause it, and now Netflix is unresponsive! It keeps telling me it can't complete my request. Can't even get to the main page.

I'd had myself all worked up to it too! Phooey. Tomorrow, I guess.

ETA: Haha! Complaining about it did the trick! It's baaaack.
tiamatschild: A print of a figure with a blue umbrella, walking away along a path in the rain (Walking Home with a blue umbrella)
Got concerned I was mangling Rodimus' voice in this self indulgent fic I'm writing, so I rewatched some Season 3 G1.

Have concluded that I was mostly doing okay, but it needs more really appalling gallows humor. Cripes, Roddy.
