Oh nooooooooooooo.

I watched the first two episodes of Avengers Assemble! and ooof. Oh no oh no. It is not very good.

Maybe the voice acting gets better.

I'm so embarrassed. I thought it had to be fun because it has Sam Wilson in it and I was still riding the high of Winter Soldier doing good by him. *hides face in hands* Oh noooooo. I'm sorry everyone.

...I don't like the way the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon killed off T'Challa.

Actually, I'm not sure I get what all the hype is about anyway. Having now watched most of it (I might give up at this point, T'Challa definitely counts as one of the best things about the cartoon and now that he's gone I have no particular desire to watch the last few episodes) I'd characterize it as "okay, but not great." I mean, it's not terrible, and I do know deeply bad animated shows, I have a weakness for some of them, I'm a Transformers fan, I've watched G1 all the way through more than once. But I wouldn't call it inspiring either. It's just. It's okay.

Seriously. This is what huge sections of the fanbase are being super whiny about it being cancelled? It's way not that good! I wouldn't really expect it to have gotten a third season except superheroes and Marvel being a fairly hot property these days. The pacing is dubious, the writing is uneven, it leans heavily on continuity, but doesn't use it to do anything much interesting, the action scenes are - competent but not, as I said, inspiring. And they take up too much space without necessarily advancing the actual narrative, which leaves the episodes feeling stretched out and floppy and rushed at the same time. It's okay, it's not bad. It's just. It's just. It's not great.

And they killed off T'Challa for totally unnecessary drama.

I just. What is all the fuss about this show why does so much of the fanbase think it's the best thing since frozen pizza dinners arrrrgh.

Went and saw The Winter Soldier again with the family at the second run theater.

I still love it. I need to write up thinky thoughts. Every time I try they mostly come out as "Saaaaaam. Samsamsamsam."

I may have some slight biases.

(When it was announced that Sam was gonna be in this one I was SO SCARED and SO DELIGHTED at the same time, but as it turned out I am just delighted.)

Having had time to study my [livejournal.com profile] au_bingo card, I'm mostly wondering what possessed me not to strike "Western". Arrrrrgh. What do I do with that? Do I give in and write Sam the Freedman's Bureau employee/counselor and falconer on the side, and Steve, his quiet, charismatic artist friend who came west/south because he's dying of tuberculosis and this is an attempt to stave it off? Something something something orphaned birds! Something something something badness something something something I lack a plot. I've been wanting to write that for ages, but I haven't because I fear I won't do it justice! Maybe I should just dive in.

For "Alternate History: Someone Never Died" I obviously need to do a quick canon review and then write Dil and her epic struggle against LONG SLEEVES. NO NO NO NOT THAT. I could probably write it even without the review, but review is safest.

For "Historical: Feudal Japan", I need to find stuff on daily life for the artisan class and children in... ... .... ....Some arbitrarily chosen point within this broad time range, and then write the Yotsuba!& story that is basically the comic, only several centuries earlier.

For "Other: Prison" I seem to be leaning towards classic New Mutants and more specifically Dani Moonstar: Mutant Political Dissident and Rahne Sinclair, still freaked about being a mutant and in vast denial meeting her, giant girl crush and politics ensue. Yeah, I need to review canon for that too.

For "Other: Crossover", I think I'll mash up G1 Transformers and Avatar: The Last Airbender. Because! Aang and Beachcomber. Think about it! Aang and Beachcomber. Also, they'd have crash landed in the Fire Nation, I think, what with all the volcanoes, and I enjoy making Zuko cry.

"Other: Film Noir" really needs to be XXXHolic. I'm still working out my thoughts on that one.

Aaaaand that is what I have so far.
