Come on, show, you give me an episode called Sons and Daughters, and you relegate Tora Ziyal to the B-plot? While writing Alexander Rozhenko completely out of character to haul him into the A-plot AND sidelining Jake Sisko AND ignoring Nog completely? (Seriously, poor Alexander, what happened to all that hard won character development? It's tough being a character connected with Worf, TPTB often don't WANT you to grow and change!)

Nrrrrgggggh arrrrrrggggggggh.

This is the problem with DS9, it's so good that when it pulls shit like this it's extra frustrating.

There's also the problem that the Dominion Occupation and events on the station itself have been the B-Plot all season, even when they really, really, really need to be the A-plot.

Rocks and Shoals, last episode? We did not need that A-Plot about the fucked up relationships between Jem'hadr, Vorta, and by implication the Founders. It made a good reminder of how deeply riven the Dominion is, and that was good, but it should not have been A-Plot. It should have been B-Plot to the escalating crisis on the station and Bajor's A-plot. We really needed more time with that Vedek! What a waste of an excellent actress.

I don't think it's just that my favorite character on this show is Kira Nerys, and if she's going to have a massive freakin' ethical crisis I want it to get more than ten minutes and a single conversation with Odo! The Occupation storyline is a fascinating one, and how everyone stuck on the station who survived the last Occupation has changed and grown and their relationships shifted in the not quite six years since then and how that changes the present situation is a rich source of drama and (bleak admittedly but even so) humor that is not getting the narrative attention it deserves and isn't going to.

...Also I want more than that one single line of Quark trying to treat Jake like his nephew. That is pure gold on a lot of levels.

Fifth season Deep Space Nine is a massive sinkhole of family trauma.

Avery Brooks is ridiculously beautiful.
