Voted this morning!

We had very high winds all day - luckily I hadn't noticed any signs coming loose by the time it got too dark to see. After the primary I ended up fishing a sign out of the stream. I'll keep an eye out in days to come!

In other, less spill my guts style news, we adopted another kitty a few weeks ago!

Her name is Eliza and she's a calico! She likes watching the world through windows and talking to her new humans. Also, fighting cat toys.

Every time I watch Transformers: Prime Season 1 Episode 18 "Metal Attraction" I am disappointed that the Arcee and June through line didn't lead to an extended Arcee/June *plotline*.

*siiiiiiiiiiiigh*

(I mean, I'd settle for an extended Arcee and June plotline on the show itself! They're just so shippable though, what a great set up.)

There's this forum I lurk on sometimes that had a thread recently about pyramid schemes and how they work on people, and how people move from being scammed to scamming, which is honestly all really interesting -

It's just. They keep referring to them as "MLM" short for "multi-level marketing" and I gotta tell you, my brain by this point just automatically parses that as "men who love men", as a community identification term, and it's just really disorienting.

My Ginger kitty died last Thursday. We buried her in the back garden, next to her sister, Katrina.

I've been the person doing the bulk of her nursing except for when I was so ill with the flu at the New Year that I couldn't sit up for more than fifteen minutes at a time. So. It feels very strange. I keep thinking I should check on her. I keep thinking it's time for her meds or her fluids.

I keep seeing ghost cats out of the corner of my eye.

I'm sad. But I know I did the best I could for her. I miss her, but I'm not sorry.

The two things Pintrest has accurately figured out about me are that I like weird, monstrous, eldritch beings, and birds.

...Which are. Pretty much the same thing.

The one thing Pintrest has accurately figured out about me.

Here's a link to a really neat site full of icons for games!

I've barely started looking at it, and it's fascinating. I like the feel of the art.

h/t to [personal profile] transilience!

The last big windstorm damaged the grate/fencing over the chimney that keeps critters out. It's fixed now, but some Just Left Their Mother's Dray squirrels made an ill-advised journey down before it was, and I've been spending the evening ferrying panicked adolescent squirrels back outside.

We thought there was just one! But then! There were two! And then! There were three!

Their little beady eyes and their little fast scared hearts as I carry them out back in a towel!

I went to the laundromat this morning because our washing machine has been broken all month, and in the drainage marsh across the way, the male red winged blackbirds were having a very spirited discussion over territory.

Story Corps- A Good Man: A man raised in a strict, religious home talks about what it was like to reconnect with his siblings years after their dad kicked him out of the home for being gay.

This is really dear and good. (And horrifying in places, because while it isn't super graphic, the siblings natal household was very abusive.) (But it's really dear and good.)

Today is the fifty first anniversary of the first broadcast of the Star Trek: TOS episode "Devil in the Dark," in which the crew of the Enterprise meet a horta.

It was the first TOS episode I ever saw. It's also the episode I've watched the most: I nearly wore out the tape on our VHS copy. If I want to I can play large chunks of the story out in my head, pictures and sound arcs of paraphrased narration to patch over the bits that don't matter to me quite as much emotionally.

Maybe I'll rewatch it tomorrow.

I lost my cellphone this morning. Searched for it everywhere in the limited number of places I'd been so far, couldn't find it. Was starting to doubt my own memory and senses - maybe I'd really gone somewhere I didn't remember! Maybe I had taken it with me when I went out to search the car for another missing object! Maybe I hadn't been using it to look at pictures of octopus fifteen minutes earlier!

Found it under the cat.

She was very offended when it started to ring. How dare the warm oblong make disruptive noises when she was cuddling it so nice?

It is nice when you reformat and reproof-read a fic you wrote years ago to put it up on AO3 and you like it all over again, you're delighted with and proud of it and happy to share it with new slice of the fandom!

And also, it's been so long that you get to laugh all over again at all your own jokes.

It's a good feeling.

The other show I've been watching while I do my physical activity lately is She-Ra: Princess of Power, which is gloriously sparkly and surreal. The art direction is really super lovely. I adore all the strange and extravagant backgrounds!

I also love Adora, and Glimmer, and Mme Razz in particular, Mme Razz is the best, and Kowl is a dear and Adam is such a sweet brother - !

Over the last several days I've rewatched "Darkness Rising", the five part pilot for Transformers: Primer. And also "Masters and Students" the first episode after the pilot, the one with Skyquake and Soundwave thwarting Starscream's scheming.

I really like this show. I really really do. I love Raf and Bumblebee's Platonic Soulmates At First Sight thing (Bumblebee spontaneously breaking out into a cheer for Raf on the space bridge when Raf disrupts Soundwave's navigational targeting is so incredibly dear), and Arcee's kindness and grief and anger, and Fowler's utter badassery and patriotically themed PG rated creative swearing (although this early in he has not come out with his better ones). And Soundwave's beautiful design and quiet menace and elegantly incisive intelligence. And Megatron in full horribly charismatic bombast, and Starscream's totally unfounded conviction that he counts as The Sensible One, and the way this show plays Megatron's violence towards Starscream as ominous and disturbing instead of for humor (all those foreboding little bits of music when Megatron is being threatening) and as part of the major dysfunction of what the Decepticon movement has become over the eons.

And Ratchet is so great, and the bit where Bulkhead tries to shield Miko's innocence and pretty much fails because Miko is a terror and a half and really is not listening to him and Miko glomming onto him just. Every. Single. Time. Ratchet flapping his hand at Arcee, "Your physcian says you're fine!" The several times Optimus saves Ratchet's life with a well timed shot or punch - - -

How seriously Optimus treats everyone, how his gravity is not that he takes himself seriously, but that he takes everyone else seriously -

*bwees and rolls around in narrative*

Yesterday my mom and I went down to one of the local wetland rookery sites and watched the cormorants and the herons set up for the season.

Through binoculars I spotted one of the cormorants that had already finished its nest and looked like it maybe was already sitting on an egg. I watched it twist its long neck around in all directions, including arched straight over its back and hiss with its mouth ride open and its tongue sticking out at its neighbors because! They were stealing sticks from its completed nest! Go get your own, ya free loaders!

Researching candidates for this year's primary season! It's going okay, partly because I have decided that if you can't be bothered to reply to the local papers' Get To Know Your Candidate questionnaires or put your positions up anywhere they can actually be accessed and looked at critically, I can't be bothered to vote for you!

Conveniently, this leaves me multiple good candidates this time around. It doesn't always and then I'm tugging my hair out because the only person I can find anything out about has values and positions deeply antithetical to my own, that would endanger the survival and flourishing of people I care about. Not fun. This is more fun! Pleasantly surprising, even!

I need to work harder at posting regularly here, because I miss everybody.
